This summer will be a speck one day

Deep breath! Slow breath. Let it out...

It startles me, you know, the last few wisps of summer. The worn out tee-shirts and scrapped knees and city dust that gets caught in your hair. Land of dirty sneakers and broken alarm clocks. Dresses in piles on the bed under sandals you never took off before you fell asleep. Summer in Albuquerque bleeds into every other season but I still hold my breath for the last wisps.

This doesn't really have anything to do these snaps from the past, but I'm going to be ending this blogette and starting up another one in the next few weeks, k? The main reasons being that I was never fond of the 'g la fille' label and desperate to change it up almost immediately after I created it, but you know, life bla bla and just wound up keeping it for way too long. Cross your fingers and toes I can keep this promise to myself. I should just promise it to a little child for extra security. It's impossible to break promises to wide eyes of wonder.

"the night we dressed like 4th of July picnics"

The magnificent rainy day of August.

What do you do when it rains? We sit on the porch and listens to the dripping lullabies. We throw blankets from storage onto the bed where the cats are pouncing and hiding while some movie about New York plays in silence in the bedroom. And I'll finally wear socks. My one pair.

Meet me at Burt's.

Head full of warm blood and half-dreams.

Would you believe another drive-by shooting? No one was hurt. Well, I mean, someone was shot but he survived so it didn't even make the local news. It barely made the blog. Oh, Albuquerque.

(Please tell me a 3rd grader with vicious night terrors sculpted this.)

And then it was over.

new to me, new to you

I got a new phone. Not new-to-me phone but an actual new-out-of-the-box phone. It's a luxury I haven't experienced since dot dot dot freshman year of college? Seven years ago. I remember one of my first phone's camera could take photos if you asked the subject to sit still for four minutes. It would still come out looking like a closeup of meatloaf. Without gravy.
And I guess grudgingly I'm willing to participate in the app-mania while it's still new to me. I already have Instant Heart Rate and LightSaber although I haven't yet found one where the sounds of unicorns playing under rainbows can be set as my alarm clock. Sad :(

Here's some snaps I took with the new celly during class on Monday:

This is Tortie, a male desert tortoise. I was sort of surprised at how charming he and his brother were. Have you ever snuggled a tortoise?

And this is Rachel, a parrot who just got her beak and claws trimmed. Spa day. She made cooing almost purring noises while they used the Dremel on her. Cute faint.

I also held a Uromastyx (spiny-tailed lizard) which feels a lot like holding a mini dinosaur or maybe an average size dinosaur after I mutated into a giant human being. I'm just happy I wasn't peed on by any creature that day. I'll keep bringing my celly to class for snaps. I've heard rumblings of baby bunnies in the near future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the last remiges of our summer coat

At a Pizza Hut in the South Valley, there's a clock hanging on the wall whose second and minute hands spin wildly too fast around its face either for novelty's sake or for being a cheap piece of crap. I know this because I ate a crusty breadstick underneath it yesterday before my afternoon class.

These snaps were taken a couple months ago on a rare, humid, cloudy day in Albuquerque. We should have been doing laundry and instead went to the park with a newspaper, basketball and my cammy.

I guess I should have accepted that stupid clock as it was and forgot about it, but it's October 1st and there's green chile being roasted for families wearing light coats and scarves, out-of-towners visiting for the Balloon Fiesta that starts tomorrow and oh my god, when did my hair get so long so I can't help that an image of a clock with lightening-fast hands is taking up space in my brain today.

There's almost no way to accurately describe Albuquerque without emphasizing how nothing is ever where it belongs.

We went to that park near Erna Fergusson Library. Sat next to the arroyo and playground on a blanket next to a swarm of bees.

There's that watermelon mountain...

Remember how people say that rolling your tongue is a genetic trait and you either can or can't do it? AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH YEAH RIGHT.

I feel like sitting and reminiscing about summer memories all night but those gold platforms aren't gonna wear themselves.
