is this what the end feels like?

Fuck, man.

I guess lately I've been trying to hide from this but I've accepted my position in the Vet Tech program at the community college which means all these wild things. Going out every night is not acceptable. Actually doing my homework and understanding it. Actively seeking out experience in the field. Waking up early. Being an adult.

My first class is tomorrow and I'm cuckoo koo koo.

It is a commitment I've made to myself and it seems like much more binding slash meaningful than a commitment you make to your high school guidance counselor and lottery scholarship. These last two years of summer vacation, no responsibilities and rad times is coming to an end. Blah. I'm sure I'll be the same old G la fille at the end of this new era but fuck, man. The change is sort of scaring me. I'll update you with a full run down of my 1st day of classes and labs. I'll be done at 1:30 and then sit at a coffee shop or pub to bee-log. SEE YA SUCKAS.

P.S. This photo comes up when you type in NERDS OF NEW MEXICO (not really, just super computing club at cnm oh my gee should I join an animal lovers club or what? Maybe I'll join a guy centric club to get some dates dot dot dot)

things you don't need to know

I am against laundry today.
I'd much rather buy new knickers, wash them with body soap in the sink and dry em with my blow dryer while the cats run up the wall and bite strange objects (like a suitcase zipper or Robert Pattinson calendar (they don't understand the point of the blow dryer sound therefore regressing to primitive wild cat behavior whenever they hear it)).

I know it would take less energy to just go to the laundromat but this will be my extravagance of the week. Is it strange how laundromat is spelled? Wiki says it is a genericized trademark (like Kleenex for tissues) from an Electric Company and in the UK they say 'launderettes' so since I don't understand the point of a continued use of genericized trademarks I will regress to my primitive wild cat behavior too and call it a launderette!

The things we do for animals

Cute link: Article about Duck Man
This story is wonderful. I think I would write about it for my final thesis in my Veterinary Tech program if the program required that sort of academic indulgence. My Vet Tech program is at a community college where most students are single parents with two night jobs so concepts like "final thesis" are replaced with "begging the babysitter to stay an extra hour so I can go to class."

Maybe I will go above and beyond my preconceived notions of the Vet Tech program and write about this story anyway. It will be my homage to this poor bank worker who runs out of his office every time a new duckling hatches. I mean, 26 ducklings in 3 years?! Do you think at first he really enjoyed running outside to catch a duckling, using his eye hand coordination at full power because the air resistance on these guys must be fairly high, but then after the 12th or so duckling an aneurysm in his brain gets a little closer to bursting whenever he sees, hears or is reminded of ducks? Pssst... hey Duck Man, do not ever go into the Albemarle Museum in North Carolina.

There is something irresistible about seeing baby animals helplessly falling off buildings. That is how I acquired 3 cats within 5 months. Maybe that is what I will write for my non-required thesis. It has the kind of snazzy charm Discover magazine might pick up and make me famous for. Baby Animals Falling Off Of Buildings: Why We Can't Turn Away. Follow up article: Cats On The Internet: The Fall Of Civilization. I am going to be famous.

movie trailers post

MOVIE TRAILERS POST!!!!!

I've never done a movie trailers post before (I think?) and no matter what I write it feels like an ad so whatever. Sigh. See it or not. Buy the wrong ticket or sneak in or recommend it to your mom. I dunt care. I'm just looking forward to slow and heavy fall films as opposed to the blockbuster junk we've watched this sum-sum. Read on!

The end-o-summer countdown has begun (at least in my mind) and I've been thinking about cold winds and earmuffs every once and again to vent this cocoon of bubbling hot summer weather. I think that's why these movies I'm posting look so good. They look like how fall feels... I can see myself snuggling into tall boots, tights, a wooly dress, and thin coat to sit at one of these movies, hot cocoa in hand, gloves in my pocket. Enjoy!

Black Swan

A creepy, seductive thriller! Did you get creeped out when the old weirdo introduced Natalie Portman's character on the steps and her smile wavered in that unsettling way? BECAUSE I DID! Plus, the whole ballet company background seems like you could watch this without audio and feel pretty entertained. I love those flashes of fucked-up-ness too (her reflection turning around, the black swan in the dark, that demonic club scene, the paintings moving).

The Romantics

Ok, I'm not big on the plot but it takes place in the fall in New England which is just like swoon you know? and the whole circle of friends reuniting and falling into a new life phase is dot dot dot sigh! and everyone is wearing earthy browns, creams and grays so I'm already nostalgic for it. This is the kind of movie where I'll purposely see it during the day so nobody knows I've seen it (and cried during all the sappy parts).

Lovely, Still

This trailer made me cry. In a good way. So, no duh. Seeing it.

The Social Network

If you're like me and rolled your eyes so hard at the Radiohead facebook interface intro-- at least skip to 0:52 when the movie scenes begin. I couldn't drag my eyes off the screen 'til the end. I mean, yeah. The college dorm/party scenes! The campus scenes at night! The college pub! It's all very Good Will Hunting in coloration too... sigh. It feels very fall.

Now that I've fully immersed myself in Fall, it's time to put the flip flops back on and bring in the sun tea.

leftovers

What does 'last chance' mean after 8 years?

It seems like relationship questions never stop coming. And there's always 'is this right for me?' lingering somewhere. Always always. I literally roll my eyes when I read or hear 'you just know' and 'he's the one.' For fun I read sex/relationship advice columns and have figured out how usually horrible they are. Like, if you have to ask then something is wrong and only you can answer your own question, open communication bla bla bla. They like to be reassured that they are doing the 'right' thing because for idiotic reasons we are raised to think relationships are based on 'right' and 'wrong' decisions and questions are always made to be answered like the answers are more important than the question. So when I ask what does 'last chance' mean after 8 years I don't really need to know the answer because the question is information enough.

Bla bla bla! Anyway. It's just another ramblin' Thursday. These snaps are from 8 billion years ago. Enjoy!

Killer cramps today. How 'bout you? The responsible thing would be to mark today on my Robert Pattinson calendar so I know when to expect my next period. Let's see if that ever happens. I feel like somebody churned my lower back through a sausage grinder and tried to put it back in tattered pieces. Coffee might help. Marc told me he's heard that pot helps girl cramps but like it or not I'm just not into pot. I will fight for the legalization though. Or will I? Hmmm. Everyone does that thing where they support issues that fit into their image or social group but it surprises me when I do it. Looks like I'm researching Marijuana legislation today. Sigh.

I've always wondered, Are there cops out there fighting for Marijuana Legalization? Are they silently fighting for it? Are cops who are pro-legalized-pot automatically fired? When I first started working at my drug testing job I thought about drug legalization every day. And then maybe once a week. And then almost never unless someone asked me about it so maybe cops feel like they are around the 'bad kind' of drug addicts so much that they don't know where to begin.

At my job, I only dealt with the chemical extraction and analysis part of drug testing so I rarely, if ever, got to hear about the human side of drug testing. And when I did, most of the stories were pretty sad like moms losing their children because they couldn't quit drinking (not Native American (I am so sick of hearing that assumption)) or truck drivers who caused fatal accidents because of meth. I think the general public never really hears about the "boring side" of drug testing so here it is: The closer you are to drug users means the more educated opinions you can make about drug use and in that vein I'd like to think the people I worked with at the lab are more apt to make legislation regarding drug legalization than slimy politicians and lobbyists and protesters. But we are a democracy after all and sometimes noise makes more impact than experience. Anyway. Are there pro-pot cops out there? Probably. Are there enough to make an impact? Probably not.

Bye bye bangs! I'm growing 'em out now. Might as well since I'm bleaching my hair later this summer. Seriously? Seriously.

I'm making an appointment with Marc's hairdresser friend at Heart & Soul in sNob Hill for a dye job. I've been inspired by some photo of Jennifer Garner in some magazine (real specific, huh?)

This is me lazing by the pool at Buffalo Thunder Resort. I even had a cocktail with a tiny umbrella in it.

So, a few weekends ago I went to a friend's Bachelorette Party at Buffalo Thunder. And it was pretty ok considering the 'bachelorette party' concept making me ill. Please, somebody, explain to me what I'm missing that makes the BP fun. Gratuitous drinking? Already do that on normal weekends. Girl talk? Same answer. Celebrating last days as a single lady? This is the worst one! Are they expecting you to cheat or flirt with other guys? Weird.

Megan's not a party girl anyhow so we sat around the suite with penis tiaras and feather boas gabbing about life. Everyone was responsible for making their own signature cocktail for the party and someone made something called Nuclear Pink Lemonade so obviously the convo become much more interesting after that. I should note that this was the bride-to-be to my first love, high school boyfriend! Can you imagine? Girls getting along with each other despite a shared ex-boyfriend/current fiance! It's as if the catty women stereotypes only evolved in movies and tv. Wait, ew, I'm not fond of written sarcasm. You get my point, right?!

One of the girls told me "Daaaaaaaamm-mnn, look at your cleavage!" so I obvies had a fantastic time even though I accidentally farted sort of loud in the echo-y bathroom while everyone was supposed to be sleeping and was too afraid to come out right away so I sat in there for an extra 5 minutes. When I came out no one giggled or said anything so I was like 'awesome. this group is chill.' And unfortunately you will remember that story better than anything else I wrote today. Great.

And you wonder why I have fur on all of my clothes :)

random night #567

I can't remember exactly why I didn't post this... maybe it seemed too insignificant at the time.

Judging by our hair styles and length, pallor and winter coats I'd judge these to have been taken last December or January.

Our first World on Fyre show.

My mid-winter snack that will most definitely give me rotten teeth. I promise to come up with a better winter snack by next January. Literally anything will be healthier than these sugar bombs.

Gas Station on Zuni where it splits into Lead and Coal.

Healthy green leaves at the grocery store in January.

Well. (It was very insignificant). I think there were stories or maybe burps of memories from those nights but I can't remember them. The arrangement made it seem special, although I guess we'll never know!

Bye Firefox (for now)!

I've finally switched from Firefox to Chrome. I am the last person on our block to switch. Probably.
I haven't yet figured out the settings to this Recently Viewed page or if I had I would have switched the screenshots to hmmm New Scientist? Slashdot? Pretentious music site for picky nerds? (Although it is somewhat embarrassing to show that I viewed my own blog at least it didn't pick up the 25+ Lynard Skynard youtube videos I searched for earlier today! Phew!!) Oh, whatever! I read fluffy stuff like everyone else. How else will I view the horrible photo of Simon Cowell's stomach hair?!?

When I told Marc that I'd just switched to Chrome he asked which plugins and ad-blockers I'd installed bla bla tech talk and I was like 'Plugins?! ExcuseMeWhat? I haven't even decided what color my Theme will be' and then 800 viruses attacked my laptop and it died. The end.
The theme reminded me of this pic I had saved on my desktop as a reminder. I needed to remember to make a top with that style boob holder, not to remember Avril Lavigne.
Plusies, I had a couple other B&Ws just sittin' there.
I should bring back Saturday Morning Pictures.

P.S. I'll let you know if Chrome is worth the bother.

There was a war in my body. I won.

I am finally ready to stomach this post. My post food poisoning immune system was not quite ready to relive the slime encrusted memories two weeks ago, but I'm pretty much 100% now :) Read on, man!

From what I can tell by others' experiences, there seems to be food *cough-cough* I guess... poisoning (indigestion), capital-F Food poisoning (sitting on the toilet all night and feeling queasy) and all caps double underlined FOOD POISONING!! (do I need to describe this kind?) which is what I had.

Things I never, ever, ever thought I'd do in front of another human, much less my mom and boyfriend:
  • Throwing up on myself
  • Asking someone to hold up my body while I sit on the toilet
  • Asking if I was going to die of "typhoid fever" (sad, funny and embarrassing!)
  • And in some nightmarish overture, asking for more empty trashcans to throw up in while I am sitting half-naked on the toilet
Thinking back about it, I'm sort of like dot dot dot um, whoa. Obviously my mom was whatevs about helping me with my earthquake diarrhea and geyser vomit because 1) she's my mom and 2) an ICU nurse at a University Hospital has seen worse. But Marc? One day we're 'normal hi how are you' dating couple and the next we're 'seen you at your absolute fucking worst' couple which seems like a larger step than moving in together. I don't know. This ordeal makes the Can I Fart In Front Of Him question mean nothing. (Although I still don't, duh. I like his image of me to not involve gas fumes and flies buzzing around my bottom.)
And finally, a Mitzvah is produced because of my virus: I am entering Moshe into a Therapy Cat program!! He sat next to me and purred for most of the night, putting his paw on my hand and wiping the sweat from my forehead with his tail so I'm hoping he'd be a great comfort to kids or adults going through whatever in a hospital :)

P.S. So FYI about sugar and brown bags: I had a headache and couldn't feel my hands or forearms for some reason so my mom fed me sugar under my tongue and made me breath into a bag and I almost instantly felt my arms again and my headache went away. She said your brain only wants oxygen and sugar and when it doesn't get it, it gets mad at you and gives you a headache (that is literally how she described it to me because even though I am 26 I will always be her sweetheart who likes to hear anthropomorphic story explanations.) And putting sugar under your tongue is the quickest way to get it into your system without a needle. Imagine that!

P.P.S. I never figured out where I got the bug from! Hrmph!!

whoa whoa whoa-wa!

Guess fucking effing (trying to clean up my language for Marc's holy night) what? A new Forever 21 has opened in Coronado Mall!! Woooooooo!! (Oh no. Is this what it feels like to be one of the older ladies going crazy for Sex and the City in the midst of 20-somethings? OH WELL! Too excited to care!!!)
This calls for a high school themed celebration. Clueless viewing party tomorrow night?!

Plusies, I have a 65 dol dol gift card for F21 and no duh obvies am going to spend it right now. We're going bar hopping tonight for Jay's 30th bday and I need to look cuter! NO, CUTER!! NOOOOO CUUUUTTTTEEERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Portland vs. Portland

El trip-o to Portland-o was all business. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.* Even if driving wasn't an issue I reluctantly admit beer goggles would have hindered our search for mind blowing apartments in the City of Roses.

*which in our non-Monopoly-world meant Do not drink your weight in microbrews, do not slip the strippers ten dollars through your ass cleavage WHICH IN talking-to-our-parents-world meant we didn't have to censor what we actually did in Portland dot dot dot it just feels weird/wrong when you don't have to white lie to your parents. Is this what "growing up" feels like?

We needed a feel for the city and its neighborhoods. We were looking for someplace "hip" and "young," not a complex, 2 bedrooms, somewhere under (hopefully much under!) $1200/month, and allows our fur kids. We might trade in "hip" and "young" for "s'alright" and "under 35" if it has a 6 month or month-to-month lease since our favorite hoods on our 1 day visits might not be our favorite hoods when we are actual Portlanders.

This real estate map did nothing for us and made me feel like a newlywed Stepford just for looking at it. Yarf! (Yawn + Barf!) The Sunday Oregonian may have been more helpful :^/ Oh wellsies!

Probably the best parts of the day were how Marc and I agreed about almost everything we wanted in a neighborhood and apartment. We both got panic attacks in neighborhoods that felt too family oriented and fell in love with Belmont and Hawthorne which felt urban, friendly and very alive and I'm sure the brew pubs on every corner made Marc's eyes turn into pulsating hearts. Yeah, I can't describe it better than I think we just fell in love with the Belmont and Hawthorne districts. We were speechless and bumbling just driving through their streets. (Yay!)

For lunch we drove back toward downtown Portland.

Street food in Portland is the Indian Arts in Albuquerque.

I kept my eyes wide open (not difficult because I already look like I have some sort of wide eyes disease) for classic Portland scenes* like bicyclists who have more power than motorists, geeks who are millionaires from their start-up companies but who still eat $2 calzones on the sidewalk, girls sunbathing in parks on the one sunny day of the year, bookstore owners with fluffy blond hair, Tom Hanks, adults dressed as wizards, someone walking 12 dogs and roller derby girls.

*Honestly I do not know Portland very well and am making up these stereotypes which I may or may not have taken from Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.

We took a quick trip over the bridge to Vancouver, Washington. It felt like cupcakes and good neighbors and Main Street, USA but I could be totally wrong. There's no fucking way I'm living near a cupcake store.

Back in Portland.

This lady has a living plant and Christmas tinsel tied to her helmet and bicycle.

Oh, right... before we found Hawthorne District and were hopelessly driving about, Marc had the idea to find someone who looked like they could be our "friend" and quietly pursue them to see where they lived. It was a complete disaster for three reasons: 1) People are perceptive to strange cars following them down the sidewalk. 2) People don't like stalkers. 3) Not everyone goes home in the middle of the day. Damn.

The baseball game in Salem that afternoon meant we needed to leave Portland early. Sat in traffic for two hours and played games, imagined our future in the Northwest and complained about all the beers and strippers we didn't get to experience while in the city. Next time though!

The next day, before going to the airport we stopped at Portland's Saturday Market.

And I did see an adult dressed as a wizard. In fact, I saw many. I saw several distinct groups of adults dressed as wizards which makes me a little worried for moving there.

You'll visit me though, right?

Salem vs. Salem

Salem killed it last week, man. For the first time in ever we had a mostly sunny week and I didn't try to slit my wrists in my dreams. Wooo! Along with the rest of the change jangling meth heads and homeless teenagers in floppy sneakers and kool-aid colored hair, we enjoyed the weather as much as we could with Marc's mom's mini cooper convertible top dooooooooown. So we put our hands up, they were playing our song, nodding my head like yeah, moving my hips like yeah... actually they weren't playing our song because neither of us are really "into" Temple of the Dog or Nirvana (obviously we are, like duh, into those bands being from Generation Y but after 15+ years of listening to the same singles it does the same for me as if I had heard a toilet flushing. Safe, reassuring, encouraging but absolutely not so exciting. Too bad.) since the radio stations in Salem are capital-L in Love with grunge.

An actual shadow which means actual sun rays were actually burning me. This means a whole fucking lot in Salem.

Marc told me his mom is leaving Mikey to us in case she croaks. It's in her will. Is this a normal summer vacation topic in Jewish families? Marc, let me know!

A day in the life of a suburbanite.

Salem has a frightening way of eating up my days like they are tasty lemon muffins. I think mainly my efforts to stay out of everyone's way and pretending to be the perfect daughter-in-law slash family and make sure my pouting and uncontrollable urge to talk about boobs all the time are kept under restraint and figuring out how to have quiet sex with Marc take so much energy that hours feel like ticking seconds. Either that or I have dissociative identity disorder and my other personality is the one having all the fun. Zing.

Marc's mom's house is very different from the one in which I grew up... althoooughhhhh... replace his parents' display cases of salt and pepper shakers with my parents' milk crates of hippie records and their leather bound editions of the Hebrew Bible with our leather bound editions of classic UFO abductions and I'd feel more at home. Our parents' loving to the point of neurotic households and annoying sibs are really the only similar thread.

Off to see the nieces.

We took a field trip to downtown Salem. Sitting outside of the courthouse. Eating a large snickerdoodle cookie.

And another field trip to the gym outdoor pool where my bathing suit was highly inappropriate but whatever the girls at their age don't care about nip slips. We played Sharky and Taxi Driver and Up and Down which are all games we made up and might officially be called something different.

Next time I'm feeling crabby I'm going to remember how sweet it felt to watch Bailey carefully place this ladybug on a plant away from the pool so she wouldn't get wet. Cute faint. Life is Short faint.

Oh, the rest of the week was filled with the same junk. Doing chores for Mom, chasing the girls around their back yard, kissing boo-boos, drinking coffee, walking the dog. At one point we bought a 4 Loko (that horrible alcoholic energy drink about the size of truck exhaust pipe) to secretly drink at the baseball game with the fam but didn't go through with it for fear of getting caught. It made this 26 year old feel 16 (wait, what?! 16 was a decade ago?!?!)

Anyway, the sun was intoxicating. I could have put up with the suburbia blues if the sun kept up like this. Now to figure out what happened to those unaccountable hours...
