a caturday well spent

I remember wishing I could be reborn as a house cat.

Growing fur during the day. Shedding it at night.

Nestling beds out of someone's leftovers and whatnots.

Chasing intangible beams of light.

And dreaming. Visions of conquered flies, falling leaves and all those little delights I've seen cats cry on and on about as if announcing their triumphs in finding such things.

To be continued.

we meet at last

Good news and bad news, guys. Which one do you want first? Dot dot dot how about bad news: No brewskies at Brickyard this evening. Good news:
I found a size 8 pair of GOLD PLATFORM SANDALS FOR $5 AT GOODWILL. Obvies I am putting them to good use and wearing them downtown tonight. Jager shots all around please. Groan. CU 2morrow! Bring shades and advil.

Grew some gruesome

Hey, what's up? How's your gruesome Friday?

I finally cleared out the Mount Kilimanjaro-sized pile of leggings, party dresses and pit stained tee shirts from the corner of our bedroom. I don't want to brag but you should see how many types of food stains I've acquired over the years. How is there sherbet on my socks?!?! I don't even wear socks!! Anyway.
I'm still on the fence about donating my lab goggles, fake-fake fur hat and over sized Alpaca gloves.
AND I found an old flash card from Organic Chemistry I! It'll make a great addition to my Bad Memory Hope Chest, along with the XXX anime movie I accidentally watched when I was 9 and the anonymous notes from middle school that told me I was ugly. WHY WOULD I KEEP SUCH A CHEST? Wouldn't it be funny if that anonymous note was written by a teacher? Hahahaha?

Do these look familiar?
I'm sorry, Ash. I have taken your gloves hostage and will return them ASAP. They might have Stockholm's Syndrome. Can we rename them Elizabeth Smart? E-gloves-abeth Smart? Sorry.
The day's not half over and already they're plotting against me. I can see it in their whiskers. TTYS! I'm hoping to trick someone into buying me a brewski at Brickyard this evening so I can drunk beelog about schoolsies and how I held three baby kittehs IN THE LINE OF DUTY!

mountain drive with a side of nature

Fifteen years ago I was 11 and the drive from Albuquerque toward Moriarty seemed like it took forEVER. Like bring a snack and a good joke book (Joke books! Classic 11 year old hobby.) because we're startin' the oregon trail, yeehaw type of trip. And this was before instant text messages and internet news updates every microsecond so I guess I'm saying kids have always had a problem with delayed gratification regardless of the current technology. Take that, Huffpo article about Kids These Days.
Needless to write, now that I have 3 to 5 gray hairs, the trip into the mountain feels like seconds.

I think the current technology at the time I was 11 was the encyclopedia on CDs my parents kept by their PC. If I wanted to look up cucumbers I'd have to find the "C CD" and put it into the CD drive and wait for it to pop up on screen and the little hourglass would flip over and over because things like that took actual minutes back then. Also, our email domains were either netscape or aol. I think my email was lilyofthevalley95@netscape.com. Or maybe lilyofthevalley95 was my password. Good password incidentally. Back then, using letters AND numbers in your password was very high level hacker. By the way, what were we using our emails for back then? Probably emailing our own family members who were living in the same house as us. Ha. Classic 90's internet.

Anyway.
We took a drive to the top of Sandia one Saturday this past summer. Here are the pics.

The scenic drive reminds me of John Denver album covers. And the 70's. It's probably not fair to the flora and fauna of the current wilderness. I can see their arguments now: 'heeeeey maaaaaan, just because nature became a "thing" in the 70's doesn't mean you can't give us a more up to date analogy.' You're right, nature. The drive up the mountain reminds me of the three wolf moon shirts I saw at the MEN show from last week. Owww-WOOOOOOOOOOoooooo!

This was all underwater 200 million years ago! Wouldn't it be cute if dinosaurs had blogs? And they would write their thoughts on the web. Like, actual webs. From spiders.

Albuquerque, presented to you by Bill Gates.

Something about this feels very World of Tomorrow even with the capris and REI hiking sandals.

On the way home the wind filled in our silences. We stopped for a quick minute to watch middle-aged retired hippies hike along a trail. They reminded me of John Denver album covers too.

Goodbye summer mountain day! See you next year.

ppl skillz

1 and 1/2 week of school update: Scrubs. We have to wear scrubs to class everyday in the name of the dying art of professionalism.
Look! I made the horse skeleton fuse to the cat skeleton! If only there were some pop culture reference about fusing the end of one victim's GI tract to the beginning of another victim's digestive tract creating a sort of many-legged monster resembling a common household insect in an easy to remember camp movie plot, then I could make a hilarious joke here. Right here. In this caption.

I've also had to consider my penmanship and work on my communication skills among other trite courtesies I've never ever ever ever ever ever had to consider as a chemistry student. They never expected us to gain "people skills" in the academic warpath just as they never expected any of the engineering nerds to find themselves a decent haircut that didn't make em look like they spent the week before school napping on Doritos bags in between World of Warcraft benders. I guess everyone just assumed that once you studied the Born-Oppenheimer approximation you were essentially signing your marriage license to the grad student carrel desk of your dreams.

Pfffft. Scrubs.
9 out of 10 because I mistakenly called the dorsal cavity the vertebral cavity. On the plus side, WE GET CAT STICKERS ON OUR QUIZZEZZZZZ!! Finally, a teacher who "gets me."

The scrubs and the penmanship are whatevs. I'm worried about my people skills. There is a reason I am much more comfortable in written blog format than a human contact kind of way. I don't have much practice. I won't cater to people's boring conversations. I don't like putting anyone else before my own feelings. And fuck it if I'm not in a client service based field now. I tried to borrow How to Win Friends and Influence People at the Public Library but they're all lent out. Guess I'm reading the heck out of its Wikipedia entry tonight. Sad face.

Well, step 1 is admit you have a probs, right? On to step two...

strange happiness

Student here. And in typical fashion, keeping the procrastination bug alive and well. COME ON! IT'S A THREE DAY WEEKEND MAN! Homework's for nerds.
Is 'V' the most cruel letter of the alphabet? Let me know, it'd 'splain a few things.

Anyway. School. The last two and a half years of party girl lifestyle turned my The Situation's muscular abs brain into a sugar coated jellybean. Not good. You know how many years it took me to perfect my ability to condense three weeks of homework into one night of studying?? Man... back to studying the hard way :^/
Chompers is helping me study Feline Anatomy. I'M ACADEMICALLY OBLIGATED TO SNUGGLE YOU, KITTY!! Cute faint.

So far, I've made two new friends, one youngish ex-nurse with party girl echos and a 30-something mom who really understands why Fancy Rats make great companions, i.e. the best opening statement every made to me. And I've got my eye on three other cool girls, one of whom looks like she'd know her way around a best of Deerhunter vs. best of the Black Angels convo sqqweeeeeee! This semester's looking good. Not to mention my notebooks...
The pug is my math notebook.

1st week analysis: School is... fun. How capital-W Weird is that? It's not easy. I have about 200 medical terms to memorize by next Thursday and sometime this semester I have to start adjusting to the sight of pained and abused animals which is just unbelievably draining. But this program feels like a song I've loved since I was a kid and I keep listening to it. Hearing the melody as if it's a lullaby, knowing the words before they're sung. I feel like a sigh of relief.
