disconnected means more when you're new in town

Summer vacation day 11. Sheesh! The internet connectivity in this here swampy southern suburb is unreliable at best and completely non-existent at worst. I'm currently leaching unsecured wifi from someone named "Cobb" who only turns on their modem after midnight on weekdays. Plus there are bullfrogs prattling on somewhere just outside my window. Also today I bought a bundle of clothes from H&M and Forever 21 so expect me to look new clothes confident later this week. I will take snaps (by the way, I have a whole new fashion philosophy and basically think I finally am able to look like a babe and not childish at all (hopefully (I'll blog-splain this later))). And I must wake up very early tomorrow in order to fax my transcript requests from UNM to CNM so someone can review my petition into the Veterinary Tech program because I guess that is what I am doing with the rest of my life or at the very least the rest of my 2010 because Moshe got an abscess on his neck from a foxtail that burrowed into his skin and when we took him to the vet I had a surreal out of body experience where I just knew I wanted to work with animals in this vet setting and I guess that does not sound very thought out but what can I do? I act and then think and make excuses and goals and somehow it works out. It'll work out.

ANYWAY.

Did you know Madonna's daughter has a fashion blog now? As in, she is being paid for her opinion on fashion trends and she is 13 and is this old news?? Whatever. The internet service is so fickle here! We don't have time to discuss this right now. OK?! Here are some snaps from Monday in the swampy southern suburb.

I caved and bought a flannel. So sue me.

Tomorrow I am going back to the duck museum I went to last year (remember the hand-carved wooden mannequin whittling a hand-carved wooden duck?) and taking snaps of old southern style houses if I can do it discreetly and deciding what to rent at Planet Moviewood. So far I am 0 for 2 in terms of genius rental decisions, i.e. National Lampoon's Eternal Bummer and Across the Universe. Has anyone seen Synechdoche, New York? Thoughts? Recommendations?

P.S. I want the bottom 5 inches of my hair to be partially goldish blonde like it's been dyed and has been growing out since forever ago. So the question is should I pay a professional or do it middle school style and buy a take home highlighter kit???

Hello, beachy

It's that time of the year when I visit my grandparents in coastal North Carolina and take snaps of the vaykay (hate that word) at the Outer Banks. And Budweiser bikinis. And Confederate flags on monster trucks. And restaurants with gross names (Dirty Dicks, The Poop Deck, Salty Peters). Koo koo crazy. Koo koo excited. Koo koo ka-choo. Gesundheit.

The denizens of North Carolina greet me as I step out of the airport.

Once all the hellos, hugs, introductions and how do you dos were made we strolled over to the beach for a sunset walk to the pier (and also the good surfers go surfing around this time and uh doye of course I need a confidence booster like getting hit on by a crusty surfer before I go bathing suit shopping tomorrow.)

Graveyard of lost crab shells.

So the snaps kinda speak for themselves (either that or I am very tired and unusually clammed up). That was Monday or at least the last half of it. Our flights took most of the day and I was ashamed of myself for watching Valentine's Day on flight but anyway, here is today (Tues):

Is our vampire fascination just another misplaced obsession with England?

Ok. Good. Now my camera is empty again and I can fill it back up. See you tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow I can snap pics of Dirty Dicks (that rhymed. Also, gross.)

Fadah's day

Turner to Cezanne special exhibit at The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History on Father's Day. I called mi papa and wished him a bon jeaux jour au oui-oui (a made up french phrase that means Happy Whatever. It sounded better in my head.) Marc is also a father (to 4 kitties. Hopefully! Cross your fingers and knock on wood until I get my period in two and a half weeks) so I wished him a bon jeaux jour au oui-oui as well.

Le cool dad.

I love (love love love!) how coffee makes words fall out of my mouth twelve times faster than regular life. Ahhh, coffee.

26 is feeling pretty damn good.

The ashy blond woman next to us proclaimed to her friend that Jesus touches her. Like, really touches her. We stared at the twirling rainbow 'brella like acid flashback man (does that makes sense???)

Huh. There seems to have been a boat load more posing and sipping cafe americano than museum going. Impressionism is not really mah thang... let me give it another go around after some extensive wikipediaing.

And then afterward we found our neighbors' doggie, Denny, running down the sidewalk so we rescued her and Marc taught her fetch and I snuggled her head and I guess now we own a dog (until Leo gets back into town.) Once, twice, three times a father...

flip flop saturday daze

We went downtown last night to see/listen to bands. World on Fyre, Soft Tags, and The Prids. Local and Portland indie folky moody guy guitar bands. Polite clapping and mellow swaying night. I kept looking down at my black and blue feet remembering GBH and sighing because I am melodramatic and annoying like that. No pics though and (this is probably somewhat related) no hangover. I had two drinks (Orange Blossom Cream Ale and Woodchuck Amber) and stopped myself.

This is from Thursday evening at Gecko's talking about pierced dicks (again).

At the show, I smelled cocaine on this very handsome guy who looked like that male assistant on the Rachel Zoe reality show (Brad?) and every time he'd turn around I could smell the coke even more and it reminded me of that time last New Year's we took Ritalin and I couldn't stop talking and laughing and I could see the whole world through a fish eye camera lens.

Do you feel safer walking alone on a lighted sidewalk so everyone can see you or on a dark sidewalk so you can hide from people? I think I'm a dark sidewalk girl.

There were girls at the show who I really wanted to talk to and be friends with. Like girls who you want to do crafts with and steal magazines from hastings with (because hastings is awful and it is a place where a man tried taking pictures up my shorts one time but that's not hastings fault, I know, but it's still a gross place that I can pin my disappointments on) and take small roadtrips with and smoke cigarettes with on the top of a middle school building and who introduce you to Fiery Furnaces and wear wacky thrift store junk that inspires you and who act cooler and better than everyone, even you. Like a cool older sister who knows exactly what the fuck they are talking about all the time when you are still stumbling on the words to describe diy punk culture.

Marc's observation bout this cover made me laugh out loud. Fireworks seem dad-ish in that particular way Dads act like they are doing something for their children when they are just really taking over and playing with it themselves. Liquor is dad-ish obviously. But a switchblade? Like can you see a Dad holding his little girl's hand on the way to the merry-go-round and then some thugs walk their way so he pulls out a switchblade and stabs em all in the chest? Can you see that? I can because we live in Albuquerque. Long photo comment over. See you in the next oneeeeeee! My photo comments are like a completely different night/story/mood/personality than the un-italicized blog post. Weird.

Claire wore her purple flower target tube empire dress (not sure if those adjectives are the correct way to describe it) and black patent belt. I wore my blue space flower dress that makes me look 4 months pregnant and flip flops. There was a lady there (olan's girlfriend) who was wearing 5 inch platform stilettos, see through orange tie-dye top with striped bikini underneath and a skin tight black skirt. She looked like a very pretty twig. And there were many other girls wearing that trendy see through grandma blouse with very short black shorts and long chain necklaces, fake granny glasses, and keds.

Tecates always fall on the pull tab side down. It's like the buttered bread face down pessimistic analogy but for poor post college drop outs.

I counted so many tattoos at the show but can only remember a couple. Ian from the build had a blackish maze design on his inner wrist. The lady with granny glasses standing next to coke guy had two sleeves full of spiderwebs, music notes, words and stars. A BBW with red hair had a colorful lotus flower on her shoulder.

If it makes you feel better, we used the remains of it to smuggle a nice bar glass out of the bar (and if that makes you feel worse, remember that we always give 100% tips on drinks less than 4 bucks and at that dive all drinks are less than 4 bucks.)

Between Soft Tags and The Prid we all went outside to smoke. Little cockroaches raced across the sidewalk from the bar to the gutter. The mustard and sauerkraut hot dog smells made my stomach grumble. We went inside to find a booth and people watch.

This makes it look like we don't like the alibi. We do like the alibi. We just don't like the alibi blog (or do you Marc and J? Sometimes I crack myself up by addressing Jay who clearly does not read this blog. I know he doesn't read it otherwise he'd know it's not cool to say the word "hipster" anymore and he's been flinging that around rather excessively lately.)

So on my way to the bathrooms I spotted an empty booth and jumped into it. We left early and ate tortilla soup and a breakfast burrito at Frontier before it closed. The booth next to us was a cowboy family with Texan (maybe New Mexican country?) accents. I thought it was strange to see a family with two kids under 18 eating scummy Frontier at 12:45 at night. And there were two asshole cops there eyeballing us because we probably had really red eyes. While Marc was eating I kept trying to remember what this girl at Burt's was wearing. I noticed him eyeballing her constantly (possibly unconsciously undressing her with his eyes) and wanted to tease him about it. And he'd deny it but I can always tell when he's lying because we've know each other for 7 and 1/2 years and stuff like that becomes instinctual (not the right word but you know what I mean). Before I passed out on the bed after Frontier Marc was listening to Ween like really loudly I was surprised no one filed a noise complaint and then I had a dream our cats were playing funky psychedelic guitars inside Thrift Town.

bleeding fucking valentine to gbh

This post is supposed to be a review of the unfuckingbelievable GBH show we went to on Tuesday night, tallying up the number of times we were punched in the chest and spat on with blood and how we cracked a beer bottle on the floor and screamed into the mosh pit but I'll give you a heads up...
Like many of the past music posts, it will become introspective and lovely and all those purple and red bruises on my chest and shoulders will resemble something not unlike a bouquet of spring roses in the fuzzy logic of nostalgia.
So if you will, please slip on your Lady Gloves and let's peruse photos of bleeding heart punks (literally bleeding from their hearts because someone head butted them in the chest).

'nother summer tune

Mark Ronson ft. QTIP and MNDR

I feel like looking for that legendary rainbow keyboard again. Chu wanna be in my band???? By the way, the (new) build doesn't have a name yet. They want less than three syllables, possibly a "___ in ___" format and cannot reference anything. And on and on...

don't talk to me before my second cup of coffee

I'm sleepy plus angry (slangry?). Why is the world run by morning glories who want me awake before 10 AM??

ANYWAY.

It's GAY PRIDE WEEK :) and the fab gay pride parade in Albuquerque starts in an hour and a half so I'm about to finish up my coffee and figure out what I'll wear this year. Maybe my neon tights with rainbow dress? My blond mustache with my orange wig? My gold bikini with cutoff shorts? This is gonna be great!

Gay Pride Week to me is like graduation from a whole year of feeling good about everyone's differences. It's so tear jerking and emotional to be around everyone celebrating love. It's more love centric than St. Valentine's Day! Plus, on Valentine's Day you don't usually see a row of men clapping their butt cheeks or grannies riding a twenty foot dildo :)

Cheers!!!!

new world order

Game Night.

We were like senior citizens playing a patient game of mahjong last night. Courteous, friendly and appreciative of one another's presence. Cards weren't viciously thrown at each other, threats and insults were kept to a minimum, arguments about the Illuminati and space lizards remained somewhat constructive. It was weird, but kinda nice too. We felt like actual friends last night as if six light bulbs flickered on simultaneously. Oh, so this is what friendship feels like between us? We can... we can be gracious and kind to each other? We can tease each other and offer advice and listen like real friends. Oh. Wow. What took so fucking long?

An on/off switch

Lately something's been off. Favorite foods aren't so favorite anymore. Games and entertainment from three months ago make me yawn. I can feel and see (!) my body changing. My skin, a network of memories and years of reactions disguised through wrinkles and freckles and gravity leaden sags. I can feel myself letting go of friends who were actually acquaintances who were actually pricks who were actually just normal people, peers with fears (that rhymed) and hidden wishes. Clothes, colognes and other closet treasures from my free years are sitting in a thrift store on San Mateo, being handled by the flippant, impatient fingers of a girl eight years younger than me. Independent like me, girlish like me, but happy to make mistakes, adult mistakes, unlike me. I feel less resilient than her. I am less resilient than her. At 18 years old the ticking of clocks reminded us of our almost infinite time to fall in love and experience loneliness, visit Paris and learn foreign tongues, dance in backyards and sob along with old romance films where the actors cried real tears. Tripping over mistakes like pebbles caught in the nook of sidewalk cracks. At 26, the ticking of clocks remind us of time slipping away, drifting through the cracks of windows, through an open door, through keyholes and ceiling vents and plumbing. When I feel the ticking clock it feels like I'm grabbing at air sometimes. If I could just turn it off until I decide how to define my approaching future then I'd be set.

Maybe it is off and that why I feel so stagnant. Let's figure out how to turn me back on (is what she said.)

This post is filed under emo, ugh. I'm going to go write a poem about sad ghosts and watch The Craft while carving upside down crosses on my legs.
