77 degress, lavishly sunny with a few clouds hovering over the Sandias and windy as fuck.
Guess what we did?

This is my little $5 Hibou kite. It was between him, a psychedelic crocodile and tropical fish. The owl made the most sense.
WS was off and running with his kite before Marc and I even had time to put ours together. Marc bought the 3D high performance kite for an extra 5 bucks and it took a little longer to build than WS's trashbag triangle, but I could have sat there forever with him. The grass and feel of earth on my skin, the wind and the quick dissipation of the clouds were satisfying. And rich. And we could have just sat there smiling at each other for the rest of the day. Happy with the ease of friendship and sunny weather. Knowing it would be over before we had time to appreciate it. I think it was made better by it's ephemeral quality, anyway.
We should have attached little army guys to the underside to make it extra cool.
WS bought an extra long reel of string and kept pestering me to attach it to little Hibou. "C'mon! Let's see how high it can get!" But I was really very satisfied with the reel it came with. Not everything has to become a pissing contest... stupid boys.
We had the whole park to ourselves. To fly kites.
And get grass stains.
And blow bubbles.
Messy hair and windblown clothes. We brushed away the itchy grass and dandelions stuck to our feet.

You could feel Spring's cold hand loosen its grip. And the warm, curly western winds! Scents of beaches and palm trees and orange trees drifted through, but maybe only in my mind.
The clouds are always so far away in New Mexico. When it's cloudy it's never cloudy over you.
Imaginary bongos.
The experiment: Will a Walmart Plastic Bag Make a Respectable Kite? Guess who's idea it was...
Meanwhile, on the sane side of the park:
My kite was difficult to manage, but if it crashed, the roundish shape would cause it to bounce back up into the sky. Pretty cool.
The plastic bag kite would catch wind (no, duh) but wouldn't get any height.
One sweet Spring afternoon, flying Walmart bags...
This snap is my art school thesis. lololololololololol times infinity.
We placed shoes, water bottles, and branches on the kites to keep them from rolling away and looked for faces and things in the clouds.
A dragon with wings.
A boy blowing dandelion seeds.
And rolled our necks backwards to view an upside-down Sandia Mountain.
Our words falling out of our mouths and resting on the grass before being carried away on wind streams. Everything got carried away by the wind.
Even we did.
