travel day three

woke up and remembered i would be meeting rye for lunch near her school. her dorm room is small and peach colored. the dorm was once a hotel so it has the haunted feeling. just slightly though.

i walked down to third and market and realized i left my money and cards back at the dorm. curious decision. should i walk back five blocks and get money so i can take the bus or just trek on foot to jones and chestnut?

i decided to trek. besides. my lazy bones could use a few hills to walk up for exercise.

all i'm going to say about the hills is DOUBLE-YOU. TEE. EFF??!!! how the fuck am i this out of shape? i was huffing puffing out a lung just walking up two steep blocks. THE 4 YEAR OLD CHILD was passing me. swear to god i'm going to start exercising regularly when i get back to albuquerque.

i only got lost twice. and i only had to stop twice to catch my breath. although the second time i thought my ears were bleeding because i was sweating so much.

i found that little magical stairway that takes you to jones street. it's like the secret garden minus english girl plus million dollar houses times calves workout.

rye and her friend, harvey. we ate at JUST A BITE. she says it's always empty. oh yea did i tell you that after i climbed roughly the height of three small mountains to jones street, she told me to come back down, the restaurant was actually on columbus instead. oh. ok. just let me rent a wheelchair for my swollen ankles. and by the way i fell in love with the jewish stoner. i can't help it. anyone who makes me feel comfortable about girl sweat is on my love list. also also! the next night he would scream out loud to me 'what? are you used to big dicks or something?" lol.

decided to get lost in san francisco. intelligently lost. i would be taking streets east and south and wind up near downtown.

wait. WHAT? "san francisco was so EXPEN$IVE i could only afford half a cup"??!! $$$4 novelty garbage? blech. talk about trash-ay.

i wandered into chinatown.

after chinatown, i intended to go down to the mexican neighborhood to see if i could find ingredients for seafood salad and grilled burritos. plus, rye and harvey told me the mission district has great thrift shops. reasonable thrift shops. but my phone and camera battery were beeping at me so i went back to the dorm to plug em in. and the next four hours were spent sleeping. damn damn. i didn't mean to nod off. when i woke up it was dark and rye called to tell me i should meet her at her school. there was a gallery opening, free food and wine!

when i got there i met another one of rye's friends. someone on her basketball team. his personality was abrasive. or maybe i was in a bad mood. we argued about whether the administration is right in making the decision to make SFAI more academic. write about that later maybe. the pieces at the gallery were ok. there was one piece in particular that i kept rolling my eyes at. a huge printout of sarah palin with smudges and paint runs. obvious. rye gave me the tour of her school again and i saw a girl gluing small rectangles of cardboard together. she was making a robot army.

afterwards, i bought two bags of groceries from safeway and took bus 30 home. accidentally got off at sutter and not market. walked into crackville and carried myself several extra blocks to find her dorm again. this sounds extra more boring than it actually was. whatever. imagine me in the smartest dress you've ever imagined.
