for all i know, this pic on the left is not the band i saw last night at the launchpad. i wasn't paying attention cause i got rejected from Aaa-nother job that i didn't really want but just need the money to move to another city to get another degree that i probably don't really want i don't know what i want.
i don't know what i want.
anyhow. the band is called liars and their sound is feel sorry for yourself downbeat kinda black heart procession but deeper voice rich kid keyboarding. i wish i weren't in such a bad mood last night cause the more i think about it the more i like them. i guess it reminded me of typical kids from los angeles playing in somebody's living room party instead of an actual launchpad show.
their style was revamped assassination beatnik or at least the lead singer/bassist was. the drummer had a venice beach mustachio with fake (?) beer belly and the keyboardist/guitar guy had bleached blond skater cut hair with THICK BLACK EYEBROWS. simon asked if he was a she and no one knew, he's pretty. the singer danced during the whole thing and i know in your head you're imagining how pop white guys dance like clapping their hands and jumping around and basically glorified chicken dance but no. stop. wipe that image out of your head and i'll describe his dance.
imagine he used his gray blazer to flap around the stage in slow motion. imagine him doing a cracked out version of geisha dance in sloooooow motion on top of two wobbly speakers. imagine him shaking his hands like a germaphobe. also, for the first half of the show i thought he had a bilateral complete cleft lip and palate so i felt really good that everyone was ok with a facial deformity singer. Then I realized he didn't have a facial deformity. he just kept his mouth WIDE open to a degree previously unwitnessed by my person. he kept his mouth open that wide when it was just jam session time like a total of 3 hours give or take 2 hours. imagine him rubbing his eyes with both palms like he has severe pink eye - you can't see his hands it's blurry from rubbing so fast - and then he's staring straight into the back part of your eyeballs with a WIDE OPEN MOUTH. basically it looked like he was dancing the exaggerated motions of a goth 3 year old with severe mysophobia but i'm not complaining.
wait. yeah. actually i am complaining. this show was far too low energy for an already low energy mood i was in. plus i don't got pics from last night. was too busy sleeping in a booth. and no, i don't know why the wide open mouth was such a frightening concept to me. maybe because it wasn't a wide open beaver. joke courtesy of vonnegut. oh yeah, also launchpad was pretty crowded for a tuesday night, liars must have a lot of fans.
