That night, we could have jumped in the car and drove away, together. Living together. Being together. We were revolving around each other all night, laughing and leaning.
Unbearably hot inside of Burt's, we tried standing under their one air vent.
Do you remember those summer nights in the southwest? Your arms flourish with goosebumps from the cool wind, and the heat waves from the pavement make you sweat.
We could have been 12 or 35. It was that kind of funny feeling.
We were children at a slumber party.
Sitting on the corner of Vassar and Silver, singing into the dark canals of night air and dirty streets, throwing beer bottles, waiting for a taxi.
We waited there for 15 minutes, but it felt longer. I still remember how warm the pavement was.
