hissy fit

i'm dressing as MEDUSA for halloween this year. and i'm pretty psyched about it. For halloween, i've become a big fan of ghastly costumes over run of the mill non-scary getups or even worse the sexy category. before i construct my costume i figured i would take a long look at medusa photos on google images. basically, they fall within three categories:

HISTORICAL.
whether it be an oil painting, classic statue or movie role, medusa was always a revered and serious subject. generally, her snakes stick close to her head. her skin is sometimes scaly but always ghoulish. she's tortured. she's frightening and an unusual beauty.
top to bottom: a detail of benvenuto cellini's statue of perseus with the head of medusa; Bust of Medusa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; Pierre et Gilles, Medusa; a still from Clash of the Titans; Medusa (oil on canvas) by Arnold Böcklin; a closeup of medusa from Clash of the Titans; Tête de Méduse, by Peter Paul Rubens.

FAN ART.
medusa in fan art is a mixture of personalities. regardless, she's always sultry. her unkempt snakes fall wildly around her head and body.
she shows up as a seductress with a tiny waist and large breasts. a ultra femme, she's provacative and tempting. other times she shows up as a fierce, fork tongued monster. she's still beautiful but not as haunting as the historical medusas. she also appears in the form of a sweet childlike girl and occasionally a pale gothic creature.
fan art usually gives her a metal armband and headband and sometimes tattoos. and she's either clothed in a toga or some slutty representation of one. sometimes she's drawn with a scaly lower body.

ACTUAL MEDUSA COSTUMES.
this category is helpful in that i'd like to avoid looking like any of the costumes in these photos.
this looks more borg than medusa to me. also, what is the point of golden webbed gloves? although, i like each little red snake tongue. bad bad choice of face make-up.
medusa with an ill-fitting pleather jacket? yeah, sure. this is the medusa who has given up on life.
drag queen make-up. and the whole ensemble feels too matchy last minute. like, she (or he) bought this out of a discount bin at walgreens.
also, i'd like to assume it's not necessary for me to pierce my nips to complete my outfit.
